Accidentally in Love With... A God? ★★★☆☆ | #COYER Book Review

Author: Mimi Jean Pamfiloff
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Source: NetGalley
294 pages

Twenty-two-year-old Emma Keane has a secret friend. He’s powerful, mysterious, and devastatingly handsome. In her dreams, anyway.

In real life, he’s an enigma. Maybe just a teensie jealous. Definitely overbearing. He’s also a voice only she can hear.

So who or what is he? He won’t say. But if she wants to be free, to be normal, Emma will have to trek to the jungles once ruled by the Mayans and find the forgotten ruin holding the answers.

However, the ruthless deity she’s about to unknowingly unleash on the modern world might not be so easily extracted from her life. Bottom line, he’s got enemies, and now, so does she.

I've been wanting to read this book for months now.  It was on the list of best 100 series of 2012 on the Paranormal Romance with a Kick groups challenge.  When I saw it was on NetGalley I jumped at the chance.  I like books with humor in them.  I thought I'd love this book but I found myself constantly distracted and just couldn't get into it.  I liked it, but didn't love it.

As you can read in the blurb Emma hears Guys voice in her head her entire life.  He's trapped and his only contact with the outside world is through her. I found Emma and Guys mental exchanges hilarious.  It wasn't until they meet that I started to lose interest. Guy treats Emma like a baby and Emma acts like a child.  I think the book was written like that to show how much she grows as a person but I found her antics annoying.  She throws tantrums when she doesn't get her way and Guy acts like a total ass to her for a good part of the book.

This book is a light humorous read.  At times it's pretty goofy.  I enjoyed the story overall and plan to read the next book in the series Accidentally Married to... A Vampire?   There was some pretty good world building and a bit of mythology thrown in as well.  I look forward to the next book and perhaps the rest of the series.

Favorite Quote:

"Don't tell me you've got another god set up on mental IM?  That would be so disappointing."

    1. It's $2.99 on Amazon... not sure if NetGalley still has it available to request or not.

  2. Your views pretty much match mine with this book. At times the humour was a bit over the top but it was fun providing I was in the mood for something very frothy.

  4. I love a good funny read (that quote made me laugh), but sometimes the funniest ones are weighed down with other moments that just don't work to well. Based on your review, I'll try this one out, but I'll find it on sale first. Great review :-)

  5. I am currently trying to read this one and your review is so like how I am feeling right now. After she freed Guy I started not to like it as much..I am hanging in there..it's not that I hate it but it's just not as good as I hoped. Great review!
