Starry Night ★★★★★

Author: Debbie Macomber
Genre: Contemporary Romance
256 pages

’Tis the season for romance, second chances, and Christmas cheer with this new novel from Debbie Macomber.

Carrie Slayton, a big-city society-page columnist, longs to write more serious news stories. So her editor hands her a challenge: She can cover any topic she wants, but only if she first scores the paper an interview with Finn Dalton, the notoriously reclusive author.

Living in the remote Alaskan wilderness, Finn has written a mega-bestselling memoir about surviving in the wild. But he stubbornly declines to speak to anyone in the press, and no one even knows exactly where he lives.

Digging deep into Finn’s past, Carrie develops a theory on his whereabouts. It is the holidays, but her career is at stake, so she forsakes her family celebrations and flies out to snowy Alaska. When she finally finds Finn, she discovers a man both more charismatic and more stubborn than she even expected. And soon she is torn between pursuing the story of a lifetime and following her heart.

Filled with all the comforts and joys of Christmastime, Starry Night is a delightful novel of finding happiness in the most surprising places.

I have been dying to read Starry Night since a fellow blogger, Lexxie, reviewed it in November. I put it on hold at the library right away and when it came in I read it in one day. What a good book! Apparently Debbie Macomber does Christmasy stories every year. Which means I need to look for some of her other books if I have the chance while I'm reviewing all Christmasy books during December.

Starry Night is one of those books that has such an interesting and different plot that it sucks you in and you have no choice but be pulled along for the ride. Going along for the adventure with Carrie as she searches for Finn was really interesting. Then once she finds him there were some really funny parts as well. I didn't see the book going where it went, which always shows the creativity of the author. I was rooting for them the whole time.

My favorite part of the book was when Carrie and Finn meet. Finn's dog Hennesy comes running at Carrie and she thinks it's a wolf about to attack her. She freaks out and runs, Finn catches her and picks her up and carries her to his cabin. I get a laugh out of picturing that one every time. I also liked the part that the book was named after when they are looking at the stars and the northern lights. I would love to see the northern lights someday. I always appreciate when authors write books in different locals than the usual cities, although part of the story did take place in Chicago.

I loved Carrie and Finn but I'd say that Finn was my favorite character in Starry Night. He had a unique and fresh outlook on life. I would recommend Starry Night to anyone looking for a good romance, especially if you are looking for a good holiday read.

Favorite Quote:

"All those stars- I've never seen anything that could compare to it. They were like fairy dust sprinkled across the heavens."

  1. YAY Lacie! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I am looking for more of Macomber's books myself. Christmas romances have that special little something about the season that just adds to the romance in my opinion.

    I hope you're having a wonderful weekend :)
